What this trades away
Each page is redrawn as a picture, so the result looks the same but its text can no longer be selected, searched or read aloud by a screen reader. For a scan or a photographed document that changes nothing, because it was already a picture. For a PDF exported from a word processor it is a real loss — if you have the original file, exporting it again at a lower quality is better than compressing it here.
